WooHoo! I'm Cheap!!

Wow. I'm sooo happy! Over the last couple of weeks, I've been computing the cost of being "raw," because there are many people who come to Natural Hygiene or raw foods object that the cost of food is too high. My daily average, so far, hovers around $7.00 a day to nourish myself. That's really, REALLY cheap in my opinion. Before, when I was eating the Standard American Diet (SAD), I averaged around $15 per day, so I've cut my food budget by more than half.

Until yesterday.  Yesterday, I reached a new all-time low. It cost me $5.63 to eat! Yay! That means that, if I can continue at this rate (and we're not even in a good--cheap--season yet), my total food budget will be less than $40 per week!

Here's a breakdown of what I ate, what it cost me, and how it contributed to my health. I'm showing Cost, Calories, then Caloronutrient Breakdown (carbs/protein/fat), in that order.

Meal #1
2 lb. bananas $1.18 800 93/4/3
1 lb. papaya $1.26 225 88/9/3
Total $2.44 1024 91/6/3

Meal #2
2 lbs. oranges (5) $2.40 424 90/9/1
9.5 oz. pummelo $.29 160 91/8/1
1 cucumber $.50 30 88/10/2
Total $3.38 616 90/9/1

Grand total for the day: $5.63 1639 90/8/2

That equates to 3 cents per calorie! YAY ME!

Ana,
Just found your blog! Love this breakdown...I find that, as with any food plan...it can be as inexpensive (to a degree) or as expensive as you choose it to be. Look forward to hearing more from you.

Ana,
Is your husband eating the same amount?
